Where Opportunities Outweigh Obstacles

Advocating for drug, gang & violence prevention since 2016

Choices4Teens Mentoring Group is an affiliated member of Mass Mentoring Partnership which monitor program standards, provide on-going technical support, yearly training and evaluation to ensure Quality Based Practices.

We’re a community based after school mentoring group designed to enhance social skills, improve cognitive skills through dialogue and listening while serving as a role model and advocate. The youth will have exposure to local and state law enforcement officials in a non-threatening environment. We use effective strategies to provide guidance and support to middle school youth, ages 11-14 in the Brockton area.

Our Services

Mentorship

Current activities of the group pertain to regular mentorship of students in collaboration with Mass Mentoring Partnership and Beacon Communities and Mass Mentoring Partnership. Middle school age youth are recruited for the after school group focusing on drugs, gangs, and violence prevention. Support from our team of multi disciplinary skills, including mental health science providers, trained trauma informed care skills ready to solve problems and make significant impact.

Curriculum

The curriculum focuses on empowering youth to identify and avoid risky behaviors through activities such as film study and discussion and role play. Topics of film study "Overcoming Violence" engage students on the dangers and consequences of drug and gang activity from the perspective of the District Attorney, Police Officer and Probation Officer involved in cases being shown. This is a joint publication by former Suffolk County District Attorney, Dan Conley' Office, UMASS Boston, and City of Boston. Social and emotional wellness training is also applied to students based on their background, in addition to open dialogue throughout.

Recruitment

We are currently recruiting college students and adult mentors who have a passion of working with middle school age youth.  In accordance with Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2013, "An Act relative to Background Checks", a fingerprint-based state and national criminal record check shall be required.

Please see the mentorship application to apply.
